Summer 2011 camp dates postpones TBA!
Specialty Camp brought to you by Summa Love Surfing & Yoga, LLC.
Parents should be confident that their kids know how to handle themselves in the open water. Waterman’s camp will instill and refine the essential skills that will ensure their personal safety. Our instructors are highly qualified watermen with years of lifesavings and instructional experience.
Webster defines waterman as "a person who makes his living from the water (as by fishing)."
Surfline defines waterman as “Boasting total mastery of all oceanic endeavors, the revered waterman can fish, dive, surf, windsurf, kayak, bodysurf, interpret complex weather data, save the odd drowning man, etc.”
The meaning of the term “Waterman” has evolved to mean one who takes part in activities which involve the ocean, including wave riding sports (surfing, kayaking, and bodysurfing, etc...) wind sports, diving and fishing. One who is physically and mentally fit and trains using the resources of the ocean. A waterman is also skilled in interpreting weather and tide information to decide the best water activity for the conditions. A true Waterman also works to protect and improve water ecosystems, by reducing water pollution and protect marine life from overexploitation.
The goal of Summa Love’s Waterman’s camp is to expose young men and women to these activities and philosophies, challenge them mentally and physically, instill confidence to overcome their fears, and teach them leadership skills to be successful and find their personal best.
Summa Love Waterman’s Camp will accomplish this through a series of fun games and activities.
Campers will discover a new sense of pride, accomplishment, self-confidence, respect, character and integrity.
Parents will have peace of mind knowing that their child is prepared and conditioned to adapt to the many conditions and challenges that the ocean will present to them.
The one week (5 sessions) camp is open to children ages 11-16. Campers will need to be “strong” swimmers. They should be able to swim 500 meters within 10 minutes prior to starting camp.
In addition to above camper’s will become certified in CPR, First Aid.
